6. Extreme Makeover (ABC Edition)

Go Forth Week Ministry -- The reason that we do an organized church Go Project each month is because of the Gospel. Whatever it is we're doing--yard work, washing cars, feeding folks, passing out clothing--it's all because of Jesus and because we want to see His name lifted high. This is our response to the Gospel in our lives--Christ loved us and we are loving our community. We're being salt and light. We're sacrificing generously for others and demonstrating the hope of Christ. We're showing what Jesus' love is like! The Go Forth Week Schedule for Fall 2010 will be available in mid-August. Check back then!

If you have questions or any suggestions please shoot Nathan an email.

NET Casters -- Join us on any or all three Sunday afternoons listed below from 5-6pm in the Fellowship Hall and help “cast the net” into our community to show the love of Christ.
  • The first Sunday afternoon of every month is “N” for note writing. During this evening we spend time writing hand written notes to our guests. These are people who have newly moved to our community or have had some kind of contact with our church. All stationary and envelopes will be provided; we just need some hands to write the notes.
  • The second Sunday afternoon of every month is “E” for email. During this evening we spend time sending our guests a personal email from one’s personal email account to connect guests with someone in the church with whom they can directly correspond. Though several computers are provided, it would be helpful if you can bring your own laptop.
  • The third Sunday afternoon of every month is “T” for telephone calls. During this evening we spend time sending contacting our guests by phone. Phone calls are made to those who have requested or given permission for the church to call them for information.

Got Life? -- Have you ever been afraid of sharing the gospel because you were not sure what to say? Have you ever refrained from evangelism because you might get asked a question about your faith for which you may not have an answer?
  • Got Life is not only a gospel presentation, but is also a tool that provides you with the ability to defend your faith. It looks at proofs that exist outside the Bible that proves Christianity is real and provides you with answers to some of the most commonly used objections by unbelievers who are skeptical and refuse to accept the gospel.
  • Join us on Sunday evenings in the Spring and Fall where you will be teamed up in groups of 3, one leader and two learners, to not only learn how to share and defend your faith through classroom instruction, but to go out into the community and put what you learn into practice with church prospects and other pre-arranged contacts.
  • Contact Tim Shaw if you're interested in getting plugged in to this exciting opportunity!

Nursing Home Ministry -- One of the opportunities we will have to share God's Word and reach out to those who don't know Him this year will be to visit our area retirement/nursing homes.  On the third Thursday of each month, we will have the chance to visit a different facility. A complete listing of the facilities, their addresses and phone numbers are listed on the bulletin board at the Welcome Center and on the church's website. Also, make sure to check out the Church Calendar to see where we are headed and when. There are many ways you can support ABC's efforts with this ministry:
  • Your Children's Sunday School classes will be creating artwork and homemade cards to give to the residents.  Some of the classes will be baking goodies as a group activity and later taking them to the residents.  Others will be sharing their musical gifts or writing cards to be distributed during visits.
  • If you are unable to visit a particular facility but still wish to contribute, it is always appreciated to donate your old magazines, catalogs, small framed pictures, hand held radios or similar items, toiletries of all kinds, new or gently used slippers, nightgowns, light blankets, any school or art work created by your children.
  • Raisins, M&Ms; mini candy bars; candy corn; Goldfish crackers; foods that can be processed with less than a full set of teeth are the best to give out.  For cross contamination purposes, it is best to offer individually wrapped containers of foods.  (one idea is for the children’s classes to have, say, a mini box of raisins with a picture colored by a child or a sheet with some scripture and a child’s hand print on it, rolled up around the box (or however it works best) and secured with a ribbon for distribution.  Something simple, but aesthetically pleasing enough to let the resident know – somebody loves me and cares enough about me to put this together in a loving way.
  • Contact Margaret Lawrence if you're interested in getting plugged in or have questions!
